1:1 Device & BYOD

Technology is an important part of learning at Cresthill Middle School. Students are expected to have access to a laptop or other compatible device each school day, either by bringing a personal device through our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program or using a school-issued device.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Families are welcome to provide a personal device for their student to use at school. Chromebooks are recommended because they work well with the Google-based tools students regularly use at Cresthill.

Personal devices should be updated to the most current operating system available and must be able to connect to Cresthill's secure Wi-Fi network.

Recommended operating systems include:

  • Chrome OS: Current version recommended
  • Mac: macOS 12 Monterey or newer
  • Windows: Windows 10 or newer
  • iPad: iPadOS 16 or newer

Please note that Cresthill and DCSD do not provide technical support or repairs for personally owned devices. Students are responsible for the care and security of devices they bring to school.

Device Expectations

Students should:

  • Bring their device to school fully charged each day
  • Use devices only when directed by a teacher or staff member
  • Use Cresthill's secure, filtered Wi-Fi while at school
  • Take responsibility for the care and security of their device
  • Follow DCSD technology expectations and school policies
  • Keep cell phones stored according to Cresthill's cell phone policy

Technology is used when it supports learning. Students should not expect to be on their devices throughout the entire school day.

Questions?

For questions about Cresthill's 1:1 Device and BYOD program, contact Mark Wakefield at mdwakefield@dcsdk12.org.

Need a School-Issued Device?

BYOD is optional. Students who do not have access to an appropriate personal device may use a Cresthill-issued device.

Families requesting a school-owned device will need to complete the Technology Loan Agreement.

Technology Loan Agreement

If a student's personal device is temporarily unavailable or not working, contact Indira Narayanasamy at inarayanasamy@dcsdk12.org or 303-387-2800 for information about borrowing a Cresthill device.

Student Google Accounts

DCSD students use Google Workspace tools for learning, collaboration and completing assignments. Students can access their district Google account from their personal or school-issued device. Sign in to Google

Purchasing a Device

Families who choose to purchase a device are encouraged to consider a Chromebook. Chromebooks integrate well with the Google tools used throughout DCSD and are generally affordable and easy for students to use. When selecting a device, consider:

  • Compatibility with Google Classroom and other web-based learning tools
  • Battery life sufficient for a full school day
  • Durability
  • Warranty and repair options
  • Ability to run a current, supported operating system

Suggested Chromebook Options:

Specific models and prices may change. Families are not required to purchase from these retailers or select one of the suggested devices.
